Foot In Mouth Disease

Image
apparently, the foot IN mouth disease is not relegated to the trio-tagapagpayo a.k.a. press liaison officers of PNoy who has done a number of announcements that were later recanted or contradicted by PNoy himself or the other members of the circus band. but when senior members of the church fall in the same category of categorically denying previous pronouncements, they fall dangerously close to crossing the boundaries of show business. we have thinly held tolerance for church meddling in politics but priests as showbiz chismis personalities? we can only tolerate that much. CBCP president Bishop Nereo Odchimar is proving to be adept at doing a showbiz denial tactic when he refuted his earlier announcement that the church can possibly excommunicate PNoy for supporting the RH Bill. despite the fact that a transcription of his previous interview clearly said that it is a remote possibility for the excommunication to happen. if that's not enough, church officials are "urgin...

Damaso

Image
"noli me tangere" as written by the Philippine's national hero, Dr. Jose Rizal, has been translated in many languages of which "An Eagle Flight" or "Social Cancer" has been used as titles for this novel. A quick web check show that the original latin title literally translated to "don't touch me" or "touch me not". more interestingly, a definition from wordnetweb defined the phrase as "a cancerous ulcer of soft tissue and bone". surprisingly, the definition embodied the novel's premise of a church as the source of the social cancer with it's double-faced presentation as dispenser of faith hiding its hypocritical nature. damaso, as one of the main antagonist in the novel is a respected priest albeit a cruel one. his authority over the people is absolute as he uses the church as his weapon and despite appearances as the shepherd of the "native" flock, he has a terrible disdain over the indios. th...

Maria Ressa: "We are not an Aquino station"

ABS-CBN's Maria Ressa maintained that the station's News and Current Affairs department is not biased, much less an "Aquino station". - quoted from Manila Bulletin, July 4, 2010 yes, it is true, the News and Current Affairs department is not biased as it is now called the Showbiz and Entertainment department. Who says it is an "Aquino station"? ask the nephews, nieces, uncles, aunts, sisters, drivers, maids and anyone remotely associated with P-Noy that has been featured in ANC, ABS-CBN, SSN for interviews. They all maintain, that it is not an Aquino station. correction, it is not an "Aquino station". it is a KRIS Aquino station - and don't you forget that! - disclaimer - i campaigned for P-Noy and Mar, i also believe that ABS-CBN played a major role in getting the votes for P-Noy, in the same manner that Kris already split up with James before the actual election and kept it hush-hush. more importantly, i also believe that ABS-CBN is...

postpartum

politicians and diapers are alike in so many ways, we have to change them for exactly the same reason. i had dinner with friends last saturday and the inevitable topic ended up with the recent results of the election. villar being the (5 Billion pesos) losing candidate, the idiotic surprise turn of events favoring erap and the elitist masses that wanted gibo to win but couldn't stand the heat of the long lines that formed during election day. i felt vindicated, i didn't have to say anything as i twiddled with the yellow band wrapped around my wrist. abonynoy, bading, kalbo, manic depressive, kris aquino, bachelor, plays video games, hacienda luisita, lack of experience, no track record, mama's boy, gloriaquino - yada yada yada. 5 billion worth of propaganda capped off with the hasty press release of villar's mother defending her son and full studio compliment advertisement that only succeeded in driving the last nail in villar's coffin. i planned to stay quiet...

Men and Makeup

nope, this is not another entry about metrosexuals and how the lines have been blurred when it comes to men wearing makeup. i am referring to the local and national election campaign posters plastered all over the country. someone has go to tell these candidates and their stylists that blemish free skin, pouting rouged lips, blushing red cheeks belong to cheeky graduation pictures, or a starlet posing in uno. not the local posters. on second thought, the more senior candidates probably used their graduation pictures, high school pictures mind you. i don't understand why they are afraid to show character with a few elegant lines on their faces. the way botox cleared the expressions, or how photoshop removed all pores from the skin, or how subcutaneous fat seem to have been sucked off from their chins left a very puppet-like look. yup, character, character assassination. combined with exaggerated, toothy grins, some pictures reminded me of joker. not arroyo (one of the few ch...

Publicity Gimik

i'm mad. i haven't gotten the text message about villar who is actually the real boy toy of gloria. that and another text message that claimed dolphy was bribed to support manny. not that i'm mad because i didn't get to read the message, it's more like pissed that whatever political machinery is at work perceive me as not worth spending two pesos worth of text. remember the erap jokes? the ones that was eventually revealed to be the brainchild of a group from ateneo who arguably got erap elected by virtue of the "stupid" erap jokes? with the rabid desire of filipinos for anything funny, the messages got sent, resent ad infinitum. erap is still banking on that in every forum he goes to. except that he hasn't realized people are laughing AT him not, WITH him. in any case, the unusual spitefulness of the "manny text messages" can either be the brainchild of jamby jambelina or a slick political strategy of manny's team to get his name i...

Suckered...

i guess that's the best way you can describe the current state of rep. tony cuenco, suckered into a defensive corner by tommy. tommy accused tony of not doing much for the south district of cebu in the past nine years and tony retorted by publishing a full page ad showing his projects that amounted to close 433M and an additional 100M in proposed or ongoing projects. he even came up with a list of barangay captains, councilors and other supporters that received dole outs from him in the last election. unfortunately, we all know that congressmen receive 70M for their annual swine barrel allocation. which now opens the question, what happened to the 200M balance? on another note, we ALL know that politicians grease the hands of a lot of barangay captains and councilors to ensure their support in the local and national elections. suffice to say that we ALL know that this is not allowed but everyone else does it. on the other hand, we also know better than to PUBLICLY launder the list ...

Congenital Liar

Image
do you see the similarity? lozada aka the penguin! if you ever watched batman, you probably know he beat the crap out of the penguin and sent him to jail. i'm not saying that mike defensor is batman, as there's an ominous aura around him that can rival a dark sith albeit packaged in a yoda-like body (uh, short?). on the other hand, his case against lozada aka penguin is another fodder for idiotic publicity. heck, i am even writing about lozada. the (b-movie)famous lozada alleges that mike told him to drop his (kidnapping+zte = scam) song and dance number. all throughout his Sound of Music production, his horde of penguins toddle around him to rally support that's growing as thin as the hair on top of his head. lozada's days of skipping over to st. scholastica to deliver his swan song to impressionable young (and not so young) ladies is nearing the finish line. the penguins should keep a watch over him as he just might end up with "family number three". AND if ...

Aguinaldo's Folly

aguinaldo is probably turning in his grave. under his name, dubious government officials are getting away scott free for any accountability and penalties for administrative cases filed against them. the doctrine implies administrative cases against any government official can be dropped with no need to serve the penalties if they are re-elected into any government post. it carries the understanding that the people willingly voted scrupulous idiots back into their throne. that makes us worse than idiots, nincompoops and morons. then again, a barangay vote in the philippines is just the equivalent of a starbucks coffee. brewed. plain. given the fact that litigation for these cases are not necessarily under the normal judicial branch but carried out by the ombudsman, any investigation and subsequent appeals can drag a simple case through the full length of an official's term. ergo, any findings positive on the decision that the said official is deserving of an administrative case is a...

Black American Politics

Image
an interview asked Chris Rock if America is ready for a black african american or woman president and he was alleged to have answered: "why not? we already have a retard!" it got everyone's hackles up, not so much for calling bush a retard but by equating african american and women to "retard". a little digging revealed the actual quote from an interview with Life magazine: (click on read.more) "It's ready for a retarded president, why wouldn't it be ready for an African American president? (...) Maybe Barack will win, but I probably won't see a black president. There's real equality when you don't notice [race]. You don't even talk about it. I probably won't live to see that." he has a point that equality comes when you don't notice race, gender or color - unfortunately, his comedic repertoire mines the very same differences.

The Dead Coming Back to Life

Image
this is probably how PGMA feel with dela paz, bolante and de venecia resurrecting the alleged horrific scandals. curiously, all the issues are linked to the first gentleman. i couldn't stop a loud guffaw when i saw this halloween editorial of inquirer, all together now: heee hi hi heeeeee (imagine a witch cackling in glee). in any case dear readers, all saints' and all souls' in the philippines is when everyone rushes to cemeteries to visit the dear departed. and you definitely don't want the dead visiting you. aiieeee. How Do You Solve a Probem Like Maria?

had a casual conversation today with a colleague and some students who were complaining of alleged irregularities in the student election process. unfortunately, whining will not solve a perceived problem. in as much as i have other, bigger, more pressing concerns, i couldn't help comment: if you don't do ANYTHING about the situation, you are not solving the problem, you are PART of the problem. half a story is not a story at all. this one is something that happened in a conversation but will probably fade away as another footnote to an ongoing saga of perceived injustices. the reality is, there is probable cause for the issue raised, where it will remain, a simple probability. a war is won by simple inaction.

Mudpack

"You know, God bless him, bless his heart, president of the United States, a total failure, losing all credibility with the American people on the economy, on the war, on energy, you name the subject," Pelosi replied. She then tsk-tsked Bush for "challenging Congress when we are trying to sweep up after his mess over and over and over again." - Associated Press Thu Jul 17, 7:35 PM ET - Nancy Pelosi, US House Speaker referring to US President George Bush for his criticism of a Democratic-led congress that failed to pass a single government spending bill. It was unusually out of character for Nancy Pelosi as her previous reactions are usually directed at the policies and never towards the president. Contrast this with Philippine Senators / Priests / Self Righteous Personalities / Quack Religious Leaders who won't hesitate calling PGMA pandak spawn of the devil thief abortionist unano mole of asia ad infinitum... just goes to show the level of maturity these self-...

Unchristian Catholics

this is not the first or the last time that the Church is meddling in politics. categorically, i agree with the recommendation for a no-pardon for the coup plotters - let them burn in the earthly hell of bilibid. the only thing i find distastefully sick is that the Church recommended a no-pardon situation (despite the basic tenets of the faith!) for these rogues whereas they literally cast their lots with the pardon of Erap. the coup plotters, no matter how twisted their means, were fighting for a cause they believed in. if remorse and forgiveness is a measure, they deserve the pardon more than Erap. Erap had no remorse, no cause nor reason. quoted article: Church says don't pardon convicted Philippines plotters AFP, MSN Roman Catholic bishops in the Philippines warned President Gloria Arroyo on Monday against granting a pardon to nine military officers convicted of mounting a failed coup five years ago. The defence establishment on Sunday urged Arroyo to grant presidential clemenc...

liar liar pants on faaaaeeeeer.

abs cbn news representative in congress reported that a standing ovation greeted the speech of jdv. but not for the reason you probably think. a long drawn out 59 minute speech that is 49 minutes tooooo loooooong. people were cheering that it finally ended. in fact, prior to his speech, it was rumored that only 100 representatives were voting "yes" to unseat him. his long speech obviously irritated enough tongress rep to bump up the number to 132. his long theatrical delivery is only rivalled by pablo garcia, another representative that's known to use a thousand words when three should be enough. under the threat of being unseated, he lashed out and spouted accusations left and right against the government. he may have a point, but his case is the same as the kettle calling the pot black. his exit is as ungracefull as a pig fitted with ballet tutu and asked to dance the nut cracker... on ice. one rep wisely said, let him have his speech and and just get over it. but noooo...

Overheard...

Image
Tongress Representative Jose De Venecia said on TV that the President has assured him that she is not supporting any ouster plan to get his yoda ass off the post of speaker of the house (i've long suspected that manay gina IS the speaker of the house anyways). waving off any persistent rumors that the president is pushing for his ouster, he was quoted to have said "I'd like to hear it from the horse's mouth..." . what a nice choice of simile. I personally don't want to be compared to a horse, in our president's case, a dwarf horse. yeeehaaa! Kotongress Rep Nograles is said to be pushing for the ouster as he has his sights on the post of Bose Speaker. never mind the fact that manay gina is the fairy godmother of his two kids. he blames it on the many many years that manay gina has not remitted the required tithe for birthdays, Christmas, valentines, easter, and the usual 20% kickback for school projects of his kids – proving once and for all, that “all is f...

Hero Syndrome

Yesterday, Trillanes held the country hostage once again to try and justify the means to his ends. His arrogance knows no bounds as he proclaimed that the Filipino people support his cause. Although it is true that the Filipino people is wary of the string of scandals that continue to hit our current administration, an overwhelming majority of the people don’t condone nor approve of his theatrics and methods that placed innocent lives in danger; majority of us still believe in the rule of LAW. As if this is not enough, some senators, media, church personalities, old trapos and other cause oriented groups joined the circus to give their own two cents worth of unsolicited advice. I couldn’t believe my ears when I heard Leah Navarro (Black and White Movement) proclaim on national television that these people (Trillanes et. al.) have the right to express themselves in the way they believe is right. Navarro is a perfect testament to the statement that wisdom does not come with age. Bishop L...

psychedelic perceptions

opinions, facts and perceptions have entirely different meanings yet people have a tendency to use and abuse these words. there was a lot of buzz when faelnar (aka barangay captain of guadalupe) was asked by tommy to step down as ABC president to give way to someone presumably younger and more dynamic to lead the association of barangay captains. the public perception is that tommy is fed up with faelnar's antics and questionable activities. my partner and i got to talk about this one and there was a lot of discussion about faelnar as a corrupt poitician. i admit i've heard that allegation previously and truth to be told, i hated the way faelnar looked in his campaign poster. that is an opinion , but that's not the point. my partner was so passionate about lumping faelnar as a corrupt politician and i sat listening and nodding my head. during a slight pause of heated proclamation of disgust against this personality, i butted in - yeah i heard he is really corrupt but do you...

Binay For President?

Binay for president? This guy believes too much to his own Press Release . If there’s anyone to give credit it should be the Ayala (aka AYALA AVENUE) family and Sy (AKA S.M.) who built the foundation of the premiere business district in Metro Manila. Running the country is different from managing Makati where literally, everything is handed to the mayor on a plate - a golden plate. Let him try to manage Mindanao where a lot of people don't even have food to eat off a plate, where eating is an uncertain event. I suspect that he has never been to the real Mindanao (Sulu, Tawi Tawi, Zamboanga) except for Davao. The business leaders of Makati must be smiling with gritted teeth at this presumptuous boast. Let Binay come to the Visayas or Mindanao and the real people (aka masses) would be more likely to say: Binay who ?
