Senate Idol

I am going to resign if any of those crooks running for senate wins in this election as some sort of electoral protest.
- Miriam Defensor

these are not the actual words, but that's the gist of Miriam's message to Ted Failon and Korina Sanchez when she was interviewed on TV together with Gilbert Remulla as part of the info-campaign for the May 2007 elections.

They are crooks who has violated the electoral policies on maximum spending for the elections. (hmmm true)

(makes mad sense)

translate: they should change the constitution regarding the qualification of the president. if the police need to have a college degree, what more the president that they only need someone who is literate? any fool can run for president.

when asked about the performance of former military men in senate, she quickly said:

they have a different mindset, they are trained not to break rank. in senate you have to be able to ask questions and go against the norm if you have to. (a good argument, but they don't hold their titles when they run for the post...)

really now, am sure she'd be asked if she's going to resign after all the crooks are declared as new senators and she'd say "joke lang ha ha ha."

but right now, it is me who is rolling in bed laughing at her brand of verbal warfare.

ted asked something about kit tatad's position not to vote for any of the team unity or genuine oposition candidates as the best form of service. before he can catch his breath, miriam said...

"the best service is for someone to take a gun and shoot them all." ra-ta-tat.

someone should remind her that there's a gun ban.

but understandably, the concept of voting for the lesser evil is the same thing as voting for evil. are we doomed? the picking is slim, but there are good candidates that can make a difference if they are voted as senators. richard gomez (i can hear my words echo in the space between his ears), singson (the kettle calling the pan black), sotto (what's his agenda?), oreta (she does a better job in acting than kris), allan cayetano (dirt digging AND mud slinging is not part of a senator's job description), the other cayetano (he's simply a nuisance), trillanes (we're shopping in glorietta - gun accessories, ski masks, free terror on the side), honasan (only in the philippines where a fugitive can run for elective post), and victor wood (where in the world is this fellow coming from) is not part of that list. make it MY list.

going back to miriam defensor, gilbert remulla was reduced to a couple of words thrown in. ah forget him, he really isn't an interesting subject.

if words can kill, miriam would have been a certified, bonafide, ballistic, homicidal HERO.

p.s.

don't get me wrong, i admire miriam's firebrand politics and if you truly analyze her qualification, she is a true legislator. ra-ta-tat.
