Picture of Christ (Do not open if u cannot forward)

Image
I liked the fact that I was warned not to open this email unless I can't forward. Yup, it's the usual doomsday... aieeeee .... bad luck-if-you-don't-forward-once-you've-seen-it thing . then again, how many times have I gotten emails from friends who just wished to get lucky by sending out emails with headlines such as "I am not superstitious, I just want to get some luck." right . here's a thought for everyone, bad luck come our way without us praying for it, what more God's Blessings? You won't get biblical plagues if you don't forward this thing, but it is nice to share one's appreciation of all the good things from Him. - this is an email that I sent out to friends, i decided that it is nice enough to share in my blog.

In Denial!

"I believe that the historical evidence is hugely against 6 million Jews having been deliberately gassed in gas chambers as a deliberate policy of Adolf Hitler. I believe there were no gas chambers." - (reinstated ex-excommunicated) Bishop Richard Williamson This is the fellow that Pope Benedict XVI reinstated as bishop. Needless to say, the Pope got a lot of flack, specially from his own country, Germany. This is the type of bishop that believes there are no gay priests and that stories of priests fathering children out of wedlock is just propaganda. right. on the other hand, the bishop issued an apology to the pope from his blog for causing so much "unnecessary distress and problems". fine. except that he never took back his statement. To read the complete transcript of his blog entry, click on read.more. Eleison Comments LXXXIII Following in the steps of Our Lord (Jn. XVIII, 23) and St. Paul (Acts, XXIII, 5), Archbishop Lefebvre gave his Society the example of n...

Running In Circles

Image
Just a quick photo blog entry for the Fluvial Procession for Santa Maria that's held annually in Tuyan, Naga of Cebu Province. There's a long history behind the tradition that won't fit given the short amount of time i have to post this entry. [which means i have to post a follow up entry, darn] a crew member, looked too young to be doing seafarer's work. boats go around the constantly moving vessel that carries the image, it is a careful maneuvering process to make sure that no boats collide with each other. miraculously, there has been no reported accident for the past couple of decades in this particular procession. i took a closer snap with our boat dangerously crossing the bow of the main boat.

Re(Counter)Productive Health

Image
It's Blog Action Day and the theme for this year is Poverty. Responsible parenting is an issue as it has been shown time and again that the poorest sector of the country are the most prolific in producing the next generation of mendicants. The church is against the Reproductive Health bill - equating it with hell and damnation when the real sin is their inability to educate the masses on responsible parenting. Isn't it a bigger sin to bring a child unto this earth knowing that you have nothing to provide for them? Eradicate poverty, Be Responsible Parents, Support the Reproductive Health Bill. Today is the day of action as me and millions of bloggers write about poverty! ------------------------ church leaders are threatening to refuse supporters of the reproductive health bill from taking communion. if that is not enough, they gloat and hurl invectives carelessly that lump "anti-life" and "abortionists" in the same breath as the RH bill. next time they ope...

Mudpack

"You know, God bless him, bless his heart, president of the United States, a total failure, losing all credibility with the American people on the economy, on the war, on energy, you name the subject," Pelosi replied. She then tsk-tsked Bush for "challenging Congress when we are trying to sweep up after his mess over and over and over again." - Associated Press Thu Jul 17, 7:35 PM ET - Nancy Pelosi, US House Speaker referring to US President George Bush for his criticism of a Democratic-led congress that failed to pass a single government spending bill. It was unusually out of character for Nancy Pelosi as her previous reactions are usually directed at the policies and never towards the president. Contrast this with Philippine Senators / Priests / Self Righteous Personalities / Quack Religious Leaders who won't hesitate calling PGMA pandak spawn of the devil thief abortionist unano mole of asia ad infinitum... just goes to show the level of maturity these self-...

The Ant and the Contact Lens

Image
got this one from a dear friend and wanted to share this one, though i can not verify the claim whether this is true story, the message is well written :) if you like it, share it with your friends who need a little bit of inspiration. Cheerios! ----------- Brenda was almost halfway to the top of the tremendous granite cliff. She was standing on a ledge where she was taking a breather during this, her first rock climb. As she rested there, the safety rope snapped against her eye and knocked out her contact lens . 'Great', she thought. 'Here I am on a rock ledge, hundreds of feet from the bottom and hundreds of feet to the top of this cliff, and now my sight is blurry.' She looked and looked, hoping that somehow it had landed on the ledge. But it just wasn't there. She felt the panic rising in her, so she began praying. She prayed for calm, and she prayed that she may find her contact lens. When she got to the top, a friend examined her eye and her clothing for the l...

Unchristian Catholics

this is not the first or the last time that the Church is meddling in politics. categorically, i agree with the recommendation for a no-pardon for the coup plotters - let them burn in the earthly hell of bilibid. the only thing i find distastefully sick is that the Church recommended a no-pardon situation (despite the basic tenets of the faith!) for these rogues whereas they literally cast their lots with the pardon of Erap. the coup plotters, no matter how twisted their means, were fighting for a cause they believed in. if remorse and forgiveness is a measure, they deserve the pardon more than Erap. Erap had no remorse, no cause nor reason. quoted article: Church says don't pardon convicted Philippines plotters AFP, MSN Roman Catholic bishops in the Philippines warned President Gloria Arroyo on Monday against granting a pardon to nine military officers convicted of mounting a failed coup five years ago. The defence establishment on Sunday urged Arroyo to grant presidential clemenc...

Surot Surot sa Sugbu : Carcar

Image
Carcar is bad for the HEART . It is home to the heart-stopping, artery busting chicharon (pork rind) that is cooked to a crackling crisp with a thick layer of fat dipped in pinakurat (fermented vinegar with exotic spices) that melts in your mouth and goes directly to your hips or tummy. we groan and complain that fat always deposits itself on the most inconvenient space (gathering above the belt line of tightening pants or cramming itself on our cheekbones) but we continue to pop another piece of this devilishly scrumptious delicacy. add jollibee to chicharon and you would have the basic answer of a typical cebuano when they are asked about Carcar. i don't think it is purely chance that jollibee is situated right at the bustling town rotonda and a hop right across Luis' Chicharon . Insider tip: if you're cute and nice enough, you can pick and pack your own chicharon pieces - don't forget to get chummy with the tindera . interestingly, Carcar is one of the newest city o...

Praise You - Quotable Church Bulletins

Sure we've had a big HO HO HO at the expense of the Philippines Ms. World winner for the murder, or rather, the massacre of the Engish language. On the other hand, what's the excuse of native English speakers doing the same thing? Here's a pretty interesting collection of actual Church Bulletins in the US: This afternoon there will be a meeting in the south and north ends of the church. Children will be baptized at both ends. Tuesday at 4 p.m. there will be an ice cream social. All ladies giving milk, please come early. - breast pumps are available for a fee. Wednesday the Ladies Liturgy Society will meet. do you have time?

God, when I received this e-mail, I thought... I don't have time for this... And, this is really inappropriate during work.. Then, I realized that this kind of thinking is... Exactly, what has caused lot of the problems in our world today. We try to keep God in church on Sunday morning... Maybe, Sunday night... And, the unlikely event of a midweek service. We do like to have Him around during sickness... And, of course, at funerals. However, we don't have time, or room, for Him during work or play... Because.... That's the part of our lives we think... We can, and should, handle on our own. May God forgive me for ever thinking... That... there is a time or place where HE is not to be FIRST in my life. We should always have time to remember all HE has done for us. If, You aren't ashamed to do this Please follow the directions. Jesus said, "If you are ashamed of me, I will be ashamed of you before my Father." Not ashamed? Pass this on ONLY IF YOU MEAN IT!! Yes, ...

sunday distractions

going to church is never convenient. we drag ourselves out of bed on the day that most of us want to just roll around lazily in bed, we choose our clothes carefully to look a bit decent when i'd rather wear my old worn out shorts and flip-flops, drive to church trying not to shout expletives to early morning traffic monsters, fight for parking space, and if you're running a bit late, get some butt space in church where the heat seem to pervade the air. going to church is never convenient, and that is precisely the reason why i personally value my time at church, because it is my sacrifice to be able to talk silently with God. i know i haven't been burning the lines to heaven and am sure if prayer is a pre-paid connection, my hundred peso load will probably last me till the end of the year. i probably use it to send a quick text message "God, You there?" every time i get on a plane to visit a client in another island. anyways, today at church was a bit more distrac...

A Matter of Faith (x)

Image
am treading on dangerous ground. someone once said that when having a discourse among acquaintances, avoid topics of religion and politics. there is no greater struggle waged among men and countries in the name of politics thinly veiled with religion. over the weekend, raw emotions have emerged among the muslim groups over a speech delivered by the current pontiff, pope benedict xvi, that purportedly quoted emperor manuel ii paleologos of the orthodox christian byzantine empire (the seat of what is now known as modern day turkey) saying: " Show me just what Muhammad brought that was new and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached. " ( for those inclined, click here for a copy of the speech in pdf format, courtesy of bbc ) this is part of a discourse related to the concept of "holy war", of religion and of violence - a topic that the current pope is known to have a very strong stance. it is un...

Faithless in Church (x)

I tell myself that religion is an institution and faith is my personal relationship with God. It just happens that the expression of one's faith is usually done through religion. What if the institution that you trust with your faith is fast losing its bearing? Does it lessen one's faith or faith turns a blind eye to what the institution is doing? Too often we hear of the phrase Blind Faith to describe our relationship with religion, but a distinction should be made that Faith is attributed to one's belief in a God and not belief to an institution such as the Church. In this clear delineation of Faith and Institution, it is easier to be objective and impartial when it comes to acts by the Institution. Too often the Institution involves itself in a lot of political issues using Liberation Theology as the foundation to justify the involvement of the Roman Catholic Church in political activism, particularly in areas such as social justice, poverty and human rights. On the oth...

A Higher Being (x)

When Atheists claim there is no God, they validate the existence of God. For us to deny God, we first need to acknowledge that God exists. I pity the people who claim that God does not exist. In times when trials are great that our simple humanity can not comprehend the tribulations we face in life, I rest assured in the thought that I can turn to God and give up my pain. I live in His Grace knowing that I will always have someone who will stand by me when things are not in their best. He once asked, if I did not give you all you asked of Me, would my Grace be enough? Grace in life that comes with the understanding that there are other rewards than those that we can count and buy in life. When you have no one to turn to at times of great sorrow, you only have only yourself to ask - I am in control of my destiny, what have I gotten myself into? Be careful who you ask, it just might be the Devil masquerading as your thoughts. Thank you Lord for this pain, it reminds me I am merely human....

British Religion (x)

Whereas the American Religion entry is a joke, this one should be treated with rather serious implications. An online article in BBC is headlined: Navy approves first ever Satanist A quote from the article read: "The path to Satan The Church of Satan was established in San Francisco in 1966. Mr LaVey was its high priest until his death in 1997. Followers live by the Nine Satanic Statements, which include "Satan represents indulgence instead of abstinence", "Satan represents vengeance instead of turning the other cheek" and "Satan represents all of the so-called sins, as they all lead to physical, mental, or emotional gratification"." There is a limit to tolerance and outright condemnation, if the world allows this, we are setting the precedents of a movement that advocates going against God. In fast developing countries they have banned teaching of religion or concepts of faith in classrooms in the name of liberal bullshit. Now they a...
